Overview

Our five-day blended learning course will help you to develop the knowledge and skills you will need to support and assess learners in practice. If you're a registered healthcare professional, the course will enable you to meet your professional body requirements for mentorship/practice educator and to enter the local register of mentors.

Who should attend?

Our course is designed for registered healthcare professionals who wish to develop, explore and apply the principles of learning, teaching and assessing students in practice settings.

Is the '15 credits' module the right mentorship module for me?

There are four mentorship modules; some will allow you to gain academic credits as well as recognised mentor/clinical educator status.

The learning outcomes for the 15-credit module will be met through the successful completion of a practice assessment document and through a 2,000-word written assignment. Both elements need to be completed successfully to confer mentor/practice educator status. This module is one of the available options for BSc Acute Care, BSc Health and Social Care and BSc Mental Health pathways. These pathways will allow you to top up your diploma to a degree. If you choose to take this module and then decide that you do wish to continue your studies with us you may be able to use your 15 academic credits towards these pathways.

Entry requirements

Nurses and midwives must hold registration with the professional body for at least one year (NMC, 2008). All other registered healthcare professionals must have a minimum of six months post-qualification experience.

All applicants should complete a practice document, which requires the support of a mentor who is currently live on the local register and who is in a position to support you for the duration of this course.

At the time of application, you must complete a supplementary information form outlining details of your supervisor mentor. Applications will not be progressed without this as we need to confirm that you will have the appropriate support in practice.

Please note that before starting the course, you must have access to a learner. For the purposes of this module, a learner can be anyone who needs to acquire new knowledge and skills (with the exception of service users).

You should also make sure that you can attend and participate in all five of the structured study days, as attendance is necessary to complete the course.
