We're one of the founder members of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics and here, you'll develop the skills to meet the needs of today's employers – and start on the path to professional registration.
More than 600 students are studying with us at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, full-time, part-time, in Cambridge and via distance learning and work-based learning.
Our BOptom (Hons) Optometry and BSc (Hons) Ophthalmic Dispensing courses are fully accredited by the General Optical Council and our FdSc Ophthalmic Dispensing course is directly registrable with the GOC as well. We're also one of only a handful of universities that offer a fully registrable Foundation Degree in Hearing Aid Audiology, accredited by the Hearing Aid Council.
We're one of the few universities in the UK to have our own eye clinic, meaning our optometry and ophthalmic dispensing students gain essential, hands-on experience. Find out more about our Eye Clinic.
We've established links with a variety of organisations in the optical and healthcare sectors, including local hospitals and charitable organisations, the Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians (FODO), Specsavers Opticians, Boots Opticians, and the General Optical Council.
We have one of the highest employability rates in the higher education sector. Some of our recent graduates have taken up employment with Boots Opticians, Specsavers, Vision Express, Optical Express and independent practices.
All of our staff are clinically trained and registered, and most hold research degrees and are active in research and other professional activities.
