Student Ambassador scheme: support for schools and colleges

Two Student Ambassadors on ARU's Chelmsford campus

If you’ve visited us on site at one of our open days or events, you’ve probably met members of our friendly Student Ambassador team running a campus tour or answering questions. But our Student Ambassadors can help with so much more.

There is a range of ways you can utilise their expertise for your pupils to support their aspirations and attainment. So take a look at our offer and when you’re ready to discuss more, email us at [email protected].

Study skills tutors

We have a suite of study skills lessons delivered by ARU students. Skills tutoring has been proven to have a positive impact on KS3 and 4 attainment, as it helps to develop students’ knowledge of certain soft skills that aren’t explicitly taught in school, such as budgeting, stress management and critical thinking.

These are the perfect fit to support your students with their GCSE attainment and have been created in conjunction with qualified teachers. Sessions available are:

  • Budgeting
  • Critical thinking
  • Critical writing
  • Exam preparation
  • Financial literacy
  • Growth mindset
  • Metacognition
  • Presentation skills
  • Problem solving
  • Referencing
  • Reflective practice
  • Revision skills
  • Stress management

Subject tasters

We have a range of bespoke sessions on ARU subjects. These are interactive fun sessions which are different to your average lesson. They are led by a Student Ambassador which explore what it’s like to study their subject at university. We have sessions available across our four faculties:

  • Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences
  • Business and Law
  • Health, Medicine and Social Care
  • Science and Engineering

Student life talks

University is about so much more than studying – as current students, our Ambassadors are the experts on what its like to go to university. They can deliver a bespoke presentation about their everyday experience, and answer questions your students may have to inspire them to consider university as an option for them. This includes topics such as:

  • How they applied to university and why they chose their course
  • What their everyday is like, including studying and social lives
  • Opportunities at university beyond studying (eg leadership, enterprise)
