Mathew Carter-Woodhead

Mathew is a Lecturer Practitioner in Sport and Exercise Science, and is Course Leader for ARU's BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Therapy. He holds a BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy and has industry experience in both sporting and general population environments. He began lecturing in Higher Education (HE) in 2014 and has experience in the delivery, management and development of HE programmes.

Background

Mathew joined ARU in April 2022 after holding course leader roles at other institutions. His experience in academia dates back to 2014 and he achieved his Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in August 2021.

Further to this, he has managed and led the delivery of numerous additional qualifications, such as Level 2 Fitness Instructor, Level 3 Sports Massage Therapy, and Level 4 Sports Massage Therapy.

Since graduating in 2014, Mathew has accumulated industry experience in both sporting and general population environments. This includes working with York City F.C. Youth Academy, Sunderland A.F.C. Ladies First Team, running his own Sports Therapy business, and volunteering with grassroots football clubs. He also has experience working with disabled athletes and at mass-participation events.
