Social media finds graduate and sparks greater awareness and event attendance at St John’s Innovation Centre

The implementation of a social media marketing strategy has increased programme awareness and event attendance at St John’s Innovation Centre.

St John’s Innovation Centre set out to hire a 12-week intern through Anglia Ruskin University, initially to develop a social media marketing strategy and plan a programme of events. Janette Pallas, Enterprise Manager at St John’s said:

"With recent graduates finding it difficult to enter the employment market, we were keen to help support a graduate from the local community, whilst introducing fresh skills and experience into the business."

After such a successful start, graduate intern Samantha Roe has now been offered a full time position at St John’s, organizing a wide range of business focused events in the region. 

Anglia Ruskin’s 12 week internship programme helps graduates to gain real life work experience, increase business skills and enhance long-term employability. 

Samantha Roe enthused:

 "I had previously found employers looked for experience as well as a degree so securing an internship - and a contract - at world-renowned St John’s Innovation Centre, has been a significant opportunity for me.  As an intern I have been able to develop and learn new skills and take on responsibilities in social media, marketing, events and PR while learning from some of the best business advisors in the region."

If companies apply for the internship programme before 30 September they will qualify for a discount of £100 per week, making the cost to the company only £150 per week plus VAT, instead of the standard cost of £250 per week plus VAT. The graduate receives a weekly wage of £250 (tax and NI exempt).  The discount has been made possible with funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). From 1 October 2010 the cost to companies will return to £250 per week plus VAT.
