I have had the pleasure of travelling all over England and a few other countries since I moved here in September. Studying at ARU has been phenomenal, and in the time away from my studies, I have taken every opportunity to explore. Here are the benefits I’ve found from my travels so far:

Growth and Independence

A good amount of the exploring I’ve done has been solo travelling. I’ve learned to enjoy my own company and the joys of travelling as I decide where I go and what I choose to do and see. When things don’t go according to plan, I’ve grown to trust my instincts and make the most out of each situation.

Boost My Creativity

In the few countries I’ve been to, I’ve taken some time to learn some music from each, which has been so rewarding and fun. I’ve learned some Scottish, Danish, English, and Irish music and this makes me a better musician. It’s helped me look at music differently and try new things within my music. Each culture has its unique musical style, and as I continue to travel, I can learn and incorporate the styles I enjoy. Music really can connect people from all walks of life.

Expanding Worldview

I’ve seen pictures and dreamed of going to the places I have since starting at ARU, but being there in person is surreal. Often, I have moments where I can’t believe I am where I am, and I try to take in the experience and place with all my senses. The more I talk to people from different countries, the more I gather new opinions and can see things from different perspectives.

Understanding Myself

Through travelling, I’ve had a better understanding of myself and my beliefs. I’ve pushed my limits to come out of my comfort zone to try new things, meet new people, and explore galleries and museums, and new foods. I feel like I know myself better and what makes me happy as I see and learn new things as I go. I’ve come to an understanding that I’ve found comfort and home within myself, so no matter where I am, I am home.
