Background

Prior to starting at ARU, Michelle led a team of clinical nurse specialists. Alongside this, with her non medical prescribing skills set, she managed advanced kidney patients nearing dialysis in nurse led clinics as an independent prescriber practitioner.

She has been part of research studies including the Prepare for Kidney Care study, which aims to help older people with kidney disease make the right decision regarding treatment options. She was also involved in anaemia studies and the Roxadustat ongoing trial.

Service improvement and making health equitable has been her driving force in her role. Her background, extensive knowledge and expertise is now being put into use to train the next generation of nurses at ARU, particularly as a tutor in Module 3: Managing Long Term Conditions.

A large part of her role within the renal network was to facilitate the nursing teams across the region to have a voice within the network. Part of this was through the formation of a nursing group for the region, which extended to the Association of Nephrology UK.
