How to apply for a postgraduate degree course

Applying for a postgraduate degree is easy – whether you're new to ARU, or a current student who wants to progress to a Masters.

If you're interested in applying for a postgraduate research programme, please visit our Research admissions page.

Apply online

For most postgraduate courses – Masters degrees, Postgraduate Diploma, Postgraduate Certificate – you apply directly to Anglia Ruskin University. There's an application link on each course page.

Once we've received your application, it can take us up to four weeks to consider it, so we suggest applying at least a month before your preferred start date

International students may need to include extra time to apply for a visa and plan your travel.

Current students

If you're currently studying an undergraduate degree at ARU, you don't need to apply online. Simply complete our short form.

Frequently asked questions

If you have a question that isn't answered below, speak to us on live chat, call 01245 686868 or email [email protected].

Yes, you're welcome to apply for more than one postgraduate course. You will usually need to submit separate applications for each course.

For most postgraduate courses you’ll need a qualification or experience equivalent to a UK honours degree, usually in a relevant subject area. This varies though, so please check individual course pages for details.

When assessing your application, we’ll consider:

  • whether your qualifications meet our entry requirements
  • your subject-specific abilities
  • your broader personal, professional and educational experience.

Read more about how we review your application.

If you're unsure if your qualifications meet our entry requirements, please contact our Admissions Customer Service team on 01245 686868 or [email protected]. We'll be happy to advise, or suggest an alternative course if appropriate.

No, you don't have to pay an application fee for any of our postgraduate courses.

The Government offers a Postgraduate Loan to new Masters students (eligibility criteria apply). You can decide how much or little you want to receive, up to the maximum amount.

The loan is not means-tested and you can amend the amount you have requested up to one month before the end of the academic year. You don’t have to declare how you plan to use the funds, but it can help to pay fees, accommodation costs, or other costs you may incur while studying.

If you’re eligible for a Postgraduate Loan, you can still receive some other scholarships, bursaries or funding – though there are a few exceptions.

You'll find details of the Postgraduate Loan, ARU scholarships and other sources of funding on our postgraduate finance page.

As a postgraduate student, you can choose from a range of flexible options, including part-time study at one of our campuses, distance learning and work-based study. And with access to the latest facilities and virtual support, you’ll gain the expertise you need in a way that works for you.

Most of our courses offer the option to start in September or January – it’s up to you.

For a full list of distance learning courses, visit our distance learning website.

If you’re looking for a place to live while you study with us, our Residential Services Team is on hand to offer help and advice.

From campus halls for international postgraduate students, to private house shares for all, we can offer guidance and assistance in finding you the option that suits you best.
