Eshtar is a medical educator and researcher in teaching and learning across medicine and healthcare. She aims to deliver research-informed education. She is interested in developing active and innovative teaching methods, mostly by using technology such as simulation-based learning.

Background

A medical doctor by background, Eshtar has been passionate about research and education since she was a medical student. She established her career in public health research in 2016 following her completion of a Master's degree in Public Health at ARU.

Later on, her enthusiasm for teaching and learning drove her to explore the world of medical education, adding another strand to her career. Soon after the School of Medicine opened at ARU, she joined the academic teaching team, supporting some clinical skills teaching and contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate medical school assessments as an examiner.

Eshtar has experience in clinical examinations: OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Exam) and Single Best Answers (SBAs) assessments planning, design and delivery using different methods and platforms including Learning Management Systems (LMS).

She was awarded by Anglia Teaching and Learning at ARU in 2021 for one of her projects related to assessment, titled “Student-led peer marked formative OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Exam) as preparation for summative & national assessments”.

Eshtar became interested in public and social care research after completing her MSc at ARU. She initially joined the faculty of Health, Medicine and Social Care as a researcher working at the Positive Aging Research Institute (PARI) from May 2016 until April 2019. Over that time, she also worked with the Deputy Dean of Research and Income Generation at ARU on research projects and grants development.

Through her work, she was part of a national collaboration with British Pain Society (BPS) and British Geriatric Society (BGS). In light of this collaboration, she got involved in an evidence-based review/update of previously published pain management guidance in older adults by the BPS.

When she began her career in academia, her research interest turned to medical and healthcare education, including simulation. With the establishment of the School of Medicine research groups, she was nominated to lead on the Medical and Simulation Research Group. She is currently part of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Social Care's Simulation Strategy Group, particularly looking to explore how digital simulation can enhance students’ learning experience.

Eshtar is supervising students' projects for the Medical and Healthcare Education MSc programme. One of the students she supervised last year has submitted her completed research project – "Evaluating the students’ experience in labour ward" – to a scientific journal for publication.
