Writtle University College and ARU have merged. Writtle’s full range of college, degree, postgraduate and short courses will still be delivered on the Writtle campus. See our guide to finding Writtle information on this site.

Teaching Review Scheme

Our Teaching Review Scheme scheme is developmental. It involves colleagues engaging in an annual structured peer observation and discussion.

It is designed to be a supportive approach, aiming to showcase and recognise good practice, and support colleagues to develop their teaching and learning practice further.

In line with ARU’s focus on course level development to deliver an excellent student experience, the scheme is designed to be a teaching enhancement process which is carried out by colleagues within course teams. It is clear that the developments and enhancements which take place at course level are the most effective in supporting the ongoing development of all team members.

The process is designed to:

  • Encourage and support the ongoing development of all team members through peer conversations on teaching and learning practice.
  • Help promote course cohesion.
  • Encourage the sharing of good practice, and support colleagues to gain recognition for their good practice.
  • Demonstrate our focus on supporting and providing good quality teaching, and validate CPD in learning and teaching to our ambitions.
  • Instil a sense of ownership of the student experience and learning and teaching within the course.

Further details can be viewed on our Teaching Review Scheme Heron page (ARU Log-In Required) which explains the process and offers access to guidance and other support resources.
