After a career as creative in advertising, Elisa left Brazil to start her career in academia and pursue her passion to helping business become more responsible toward society. Elisa is currently Senior Lecturer in Strategy and Planning, and does research at the intersection of strategic management, entrepreneurship, and social issues in management.
Elisa’s research has been published in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Ethics, and Journal of Environmental Management. She received her PhD in Management from the University of Seville (Spain), and held visiting researcher positions at Cranfield University (UK), Fundação Dom Cabral (Brazil), and Northeastern University (USA). Prior to starting her academic career, she worked as copywriter and creativity department director in small advertising agencies in Brazil.
In her research, Elisa looks at how the actions of individuals can enable value creation that meets societal needs. She focuses on the role of individuals in shaping strategy and innovation, and in enabling a superior form of social responsibility that goes beyond the minimisation or neutralisation of harm. Elisa is particularly interested in understanding how the actions of social intrapreneurs function as bottom-up mechanisms of corporate social innovation, which may ultimately translate into positive changes in social welfare.
How can managers best understand their business environment? How can organisations create value for their stakeholders? These are some of the strategic management questions that Elisa explores in the classroom. Through a combination of case studies and experiential exercises, Elisa aims at enriching the student experience and empowering change agents.
