Russian and UK experts build BRIDGE to learning

Senior academics from a major Russian university visited Anglia Ruskin University’s Rivermead campus, in Chelmsford, for negotiations on a flagship Masters degree in International Governance.

Members of the Business Faculty at the Urals State University of Economics (USUE), based in Ekaterinberg in Siberia, spent three days discussing the detail of a new dual award between the two institutions.  The team of governance experts, drawn from Anglia Ruskin University’s Ashcroft International Business School (AIBS) and USUE, won funding to develop the award from a British Council’s highly-competitive BRIDGE (British Degrees in Russia) scheme.

A return trip to Ekaterinberg will follow for the British members of the team, early next year.

The Ashcroft International Business School has run a successful Masters degree for many years within the field of Corporate Administration. The development of the new degree, in combination with AIBS’ Russian partners, will enable the business school to offer an advanced degree which will be of interest to both academics and practitioners; and where suitably qualified and experienced graduates can command salaries in excess of £100,000 for senior positions.

The award, which will become a part of both University’s degree programmes in 2007, will cover advanced theory and practice in corporate governance, financial analysis and strategic management.

Commenting on the latest development Associate Dean of the Ashcroft International Business School, Stephen Bloomfield, said:

“This new Masters Programme will create more effective managers who are better equipped to lead organisations through the challenges facing today’s global businesses.”

“We will be able to pool our expertise with the experience of our Russian counterparts to enable a smooth, cooperative delivery of what we expect to be a highly respected course.”

“As a major player in international practice-based education, the Ashcroft International Business School is pleased to be developing such a progressive Postgraduate Programme.”
