Join us for drinks, nibbles, networking and a series of short soap-box shout-outs on why DIVERSITY MATTERS in the arts.

Hosted by Essex Book Festival and Essex Cultural Diversity Project, this event aims to bring people together who want to champion and develop diversity in the arts.

All are welcome to this free event.

Come along to forge new partnerships, find out more about what's in your area, promote your own projects, share success stories and generally help us celebrate diverse voices involved in the arts today.

There will be short presentations on a variety of subjects, including a series of three-minute mini-talks. Speakers so far include:

  • Ros Green, Essex Book Festival: introducing the event and our compere for the evening
  • Monika Akila Richards. Performance poet and writer
  • Seema Anand. Mythologist, storyteller, and researcher in women's narratives
  • Shammi Jalota. Essex County Council: championing diversity across Essex
  • Annette Lidster. Razed Roof: creating inclusive theatre with people both with, and without, learning difficulties and disabilities
  • Edith Miller. Ideas Hub: building a stronger community and connecting through creativity
  • Glenys Newton. Storyteller and writer: telling the stories of refugees as an antidote to the media
  • Shane Shambhu. Choreographer, performer & creative collaborator: merging artforms from global perspectives
  • Anna Westall. Writer: 'Inside Out' creative writing workshops in prisons
This event is the first in a series of networking events to develop partnerships around the region, organised by Essex Book Festival and supported with funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
