The Independent Social Research Foundation will launch a call in January 2017 for early career social science researchers.
Grants are available of up to £50,000 to use new approaches to existing problems. These approaches should tackle problems which have 'existing explanatory frameworks' but no 'currently adequate theory or investigative methodology' – researchers should break from these existing frameworks and set up their own approach. The Foundation welcomes applications from across social sciences, interdisciplinary applications, and applications from humanities scholars.
Applicants should be within ten years of completion of their PhD. If successful, the funding should be used to buy the fellow out of teaching commitments, and fund their research for one year. Research expenses should be funded with matched funding from the host institution.
Call opens: 23 January 2017
Call deadline: 4pm 3 March 2017
