Girton organise Texas Scramble competition in aid of Anglia Ruskin charity
Girton Golf Club in Cambridge has chosen Anglia Ruskin University’s Music Therapy Appeal as their official charity for 2011 – and is hosting a Charity Day and golf competition on Saturday 3 September to raise money for the fund.
Music Therapy at Anglia Ruskin was set up in 1994 and, in addition to providing the first MA in Music Therapy training in the UK, the department is a centre for excellence in research.
Music Therapy transforms confidence and builds emotional and mental wellbeing for those experiencing illness, disability and trauma. Music Therapy also encourages expression and creativity, which in themselves can transform lives.
David Upchurch, Club Captain at Girton Golf Club, said:
“Both the Ladies Captain, Joan Grayer, and myself wanted to chose a local charity. Also Joan and her husband are keen musicians and I used to teach children with behaviour problems, so we both thought that the Music Therapy Appeal fitted the criteria perfectly.”
Anglia Ruskin’s Development Manager, Claire Shearer, said:
“We are very grateful to Girton Golf Club for their support and hard work over the last year. The Anglia Ruskin University Music Therapy Appeal helps children and adults across the region, making a real difference to lives.
“There are still too few music therapists to provide this treatment for the thousands who would benefit from it. Our clinic provides training opportunities and resources to those in need and the money raised today and over the past year will help the clinic to train more people and support those receiving therapy.”
The 18 hole Texas Scramble event costs £80 per team (£20 per person) to enter and a handicap is required. There will be numerous prize competitions held during the event and the day will culminate with a buffet (must be pre-booked) and prize giving at 7pm. For further information, or to enter a team, phone Girton Golf Club on 01223 276169.
