‘Do the route and raise some loot’
Anglia Ruskin University is preparing to host its second 3.5km charity fun run to promote the idea of enhancing health and fitness and to introduce the people of Chelmsford to its fast developing campus.
The newly named Ruskin Run and Walk is on Thursday 10 May at Rivermead campus and is aimed at everyone, including those who want to win, those who want to raise money for its charities and those who just want to do something fun.
Money raised from the day will go to three chosen charities, the Anglia Ruskin Supported-Mission Croatia, the Assin Endwa Trust (helping people in Ghana) and the Helen Rollason Cancer Care Centre Appeal.
The run and walk will start near Anglia Ruskin University’s Mildmay Sports Centre and will cover 3.5km around the smooth terrain of Springfield Hall Park. People of all ages are invited to join in the fun (£3 entry via registration or £4 to enter on the day), however, children under eight years old must be accompanied by an adult. It is hoped that a large number of people will walk the course during this annual event to increase the total number of participants.
The day is all about having fun and so organisers are encouraging entrants to run or walk the course in fancy dress. Prizes will be awarded for individuals and groups who enter into the spirit of the event.
Commenting on the event, Stephen Dupree, from Anglia Ruskin University’s Sports Department said:
Essex Water, Suffolk Water, Essex FM and Celebrate Chelmsford will be on hand during the day and are among the many who have offered prizes as rewards to worthy runners and walkers.
The event is a part of Celebrate Chelmsford, a programme of over 80 unique and entertaining events showcasing the best of what the borough and its community has to offer.
The Ruskin Run and Walk starts at 5.45pm. Those entering on the day should register at least 30 minutes before the event. For further information on the Fun Run call Anglia Ruskin University on 0845 271 3333
