Anglia Ruskin University is participating in Adult Learners' Week which is the UK's largest and longest running learning campaign (15-21 May).

Held each May, it encourages thousands of adults, whatever their age and background, to give learning a go.

For those thinking of applying to a higher education institution, Anglia Ruskin is staging an Adult Learners’ Information Day during this week on Thursday 20 May from 10.00am – 3.00pm. The variety of events held during Adult Learners' Week continues to encourage thousands of people each year to take up learning activities.

Organised by the Careers and Employability Service, the day will see hundreds of individuals call into the university for an informal chat with a careers adviser.

The achievements of outstanding individuals, families, groups and projects are celebrated through the Adult Learners' Week Awards, presented at national and regional ceremonies. Their remarkable stories often receive significant news coverage, inspiring others to learn something new.

Anglia Ruskin University Careers Adviser Jo Boyton explains:

"This day is key for those who have been considering the idea of higher education but have not yet made the first steps to apply."

"We are only too aware that many people may be anxious about starting higher education later in life but know that it is something they really want to do. The careers advisers will offer them all the advice they need to encourage these individuals into the study environment in order to help them develop and grow."

Mature student Luke Minshall said:

"At the age of 36, I decided to study for a Degree in Psychology. Five years on, I have a 2:1 in Psychology, a Masters Degree in Occupational Psychology and a job I could only have dreamt of four years ago."

"I was fortunate to have some excellent guidance from the Careers Service and this helped me to evaluate my future."

"There can be no doubt that my time at Anglia Ruskin University was a fantastic experience, which has paved the way to many rich rewards."

The Adult Learners’ Information Day will be staged in the Reception area of Anglia Ruskin University’s Ashcroft Building, Bishop Hall Lane, Chelmsford. The courses detailed on the day will extend the University’s five faculties including Arts Law &Social Sciences, Science & Technology, the Ashcroft International Business School, Education and Health & Social Care.
