Cambridge Science Festival - The science of out-of-body experiences

19 March 2016, 14:00 - 15:00
Cambridge campus

Out-of-body experiences, in which one’s self seems to leave one’s physical body, are commonly associated with near-death experiences, but can occur in many other situations, with various causes. Dr Jane Aspell, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University, will discuss the latest neuroscientific explanations of these puzzling phenomena, and will explain why the science of out-of-body experiences can inform theories of how the brain creates the everyday experience of one’s self inhabiting a body.
