Modules & assessment

Year one, core modules

  • Practice of Sales
    In this module you will focus on increasing sales through your knowledge of the sales process and your communication skills in the sales environment. You’ll explore building rapport, developing active listening skills and asking open questions. You’ll learn about understanding customer needs, the importance of product knowledge and presenting features and benefits.
  • Practice of Sales 2
    In this module you’ll develop the art of selling. This will include; link selling and upselling, dealing with difficult situations, building and sustaining client relationships.
  • Sales Staff Development
    This module provides the opportunity for you to reflect on your sales practice and to develop your skills as both an independent learner at undergraduate level and as an employee. You’ll develop reading, note-taking, essay and report writing/referencing skills, as well as time management, stress management, presentation, problem solving and team building skills.
  • Sales Project 1
    This sales-related project will be based on roles and responsibilities and your organisation’s goals. It gives you the opportunity to demonstrate impact and showcase your professional development.

Year two, core modules

  • Enterprise in Sales
    Creativity the innovation process and the importance of enterprise are the key themes of this module. You’ll look at the nature of creativity and the application of tools and techniques to enhance creativity. You’ll explore the innovation process from concept through to market success, as well as approaches to entrepreneurship and creating intrapreneurship in large organisations.
  • Key Account Management
    You’ll learn how to analyse your customers, and identify Key Accounts with whom you should develop a close relationship. You’ll develop key account value propositions and methods to measure the effectiveness of key account plans.
  • Sales Project 2
    Building on your first project, this sales-related project will be based on your roles and responsibilities and your organisation’s goals. It gives you the opportunity to demonstrate impact and showcase your professional development.

Year two, optional modules

  • Psychology of Sales
    You’ll explore the contribution that psychology can make to understanding the Sales process including people, decisions, relationships, buying and negotiating. The implication this understanding has to Sales practice within organisations will be explored in depth.

Year three, core modules

  • The International Customer
    This module will give you an understanding of the wider international environment, enabling you to analyse the market forces affecting an organisation including markets, types of customer, suppliers and clients. This topic examines the importance of a global perspective, cross-cultural communication skills in business development and the ability to work flexibly with clients from a variety cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Sales in Strategic Perspective
    Building on and integrating your learning to date, this module looks at sales from a strategic perspective, emphasising the importance of developing strategic thinking. You’ll review conventional and contemporary views on strategy and apply models and theories to live sales issues within your organisation.

Optional modules available in years two and three

  • Digital Sales and Marketing
    Explore the benefits of digital strategies to your business and the development of multi-channel strategies which complement and strengthen traditional routes to market. You’ll gain insight into developing and implementing an effective and scalable digital marketing strategy.
  • Retail Marketing
    You’ll learn how to apply core marketing principles in a retail context and develop specialist knowledge of the retail industry from a marketing perspective. You’ll look at retail marketing mixes and strategies, the experiential elements of customer satisfaction, web-based marketing and other emerging trends.
  • Sales in Luxury
    Gain a thorough understanding of the luxury goods and services industry with a specific focus on sales and service. You’ll examine social and dynamics, global trends and the economy within which this industry operates. You’ll look at case studies of luxury brands to determine success factors and identify best practice.
