EAST is a one-day programme suitable for anaesthetic trainees and speciality doctors, emergency medicine doctors, and operating department practitioners. Also suitable for consultants wishing to refresh their skills and knowledge.
The programme encompasses all areas of airway management with an emphasis on small group workshops and interactive lectures. The number of places is limited to 16 to allow plenty of time for practical skills.
We have support from several companies providing a range of fibreoptic scopes, videolaryngoscopes and other airway equipment for use during the course.
The EAST course is facilitated by consultant anaesthetists from Mid Essex Hospital Services, NHS Trust and Southend University Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust.
The EAST course assumes basic airway skills and so anaesthetists should have a minimum of 3 months anaesthetic experience before attending the course please.
''Topics covered were excellent. Better that RCOA airway day as much more hands on.''
''Excellent course. Good to become familiar with difficult airway devices and fibrescopes and to talk through scenarios.''
"'I think for a single day you've got just the right balance - I think the extubation session was very good as this is when I've seen most problems.''
''I really enjoyed the course - the faculty was brilliant - thanks a lot!''
''Excellent technology - brilliant scenarios complete with monitors.''
EAST is approved by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for five CPD credits

The Faculty of Health, Education, Medicine and Social Care is the largest in ARU, with over 7,000 students. Our Faculty is teeming with expertise and primed to meet the demand for creating health professionals, teachers, doctors, scientists and educators for the three districts we serve: Chelmsford, Cambridge and Peterborough.
We have been training undergraduates for professional roles for over 25 years, with a reputation for quality, dedication and ambition balanced with student satisfaction.
