The value of degree apprenticeships

Untitled Page

Introduced in 2015, degree apprenticeships are industry-driven qualifications that combine academic knowledge and workplace experience. They help employees to gain the high-level technical skills that businesses need. And they help employers to develop talent in a cost-effective way.

As fully employed staff, apprentices can be new recruits or existing employees. They study while they work, adding value to your business all the time.

Business benefits

Degree apprenticeships are:

  • an industry-driven and relevant work-based learning programme
  • a cost-effective way to attract, develop and retain a loyal workforce
  • funded, in part or in whole, by the UK Government
  • an affordable alternative to graduate schemes: 75% of apprentice employers have found their recruitment costs have reduced.*

Degree apprenticeships let you:

  • develop your own talent pipelines for roles including software engineers, software developers and software testers
  • partner with Anglia Ruskin University, experts in university work-based learning
  • give existing staff the chance to become workplace mentors, encouraging wider organisational engagement with and support for apprentices.

Who can benefit

  • Large national or multinational companies looking to increase the supply of tech/digital talent.
  • SMEs and regional organisations aiming to build a cost effective and sustainable source of tech skills.
  • Other employers in the public sector, NHS or financial services who have an emerging need for specialist tech and digital skills.
