BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science
10 November 2017
I am in my first year studying Biomedical Science, after doing a foundation year with Cambridge Ruskin International College (CRIC).
ARU has practical approach: even though I was on foundation year, I had lab classes where we carried out very interesting experiments. I have learned a lot and I have got a good base for future lab work.
I am from Warsaw and since moving to Cambridge, my English has improved a lot. I gained communication skills, started to be more confident with English. My funny story is that instead of saying 'Poor you' I was saying 'You're so poor' when I wanted to be sympathetic. After a few months of using this phrase my British friend has told me the difference, so it's very important to learn idioms. English is very important, especially in the science field, so it definitely improve my employment opportunities.
At ARU we practise a lot of 'soft skills'. I give lots of presentations which demand team work – I find it really helpful because I used to have problem with it. I had never written essays before I started university so I have learnt how proper essays should look.
I love meeting new people, especially from other countries. I can learn a lot about their cultures. What is more, I can try foreign cuisine, learn new languages or even visit my friends in their countries.
The most important thing is that I can make lots of memories. I really enjoy my time here, I am really grateful for all people I have met and the memories I have made so far. I am looking forward to starting a new semester!
