6 June 2017, 10:45 - 19:00
Talks and demonstrations: Helmore 037/038, 10.45am-6pm
Screening and wine reception: Music Recital Hall, 6-7pm
This symposium is designed to trigger cross-disciplinary conversations both within the academic and student community and externally through creative storytelling. It is a day of exchanging ideas and planting seeds for future collaborative research and practice.
Stories allow us to understand complex issues, develop empathy, establish common ground as well as elicit participation and understanding. Storytelling itself in whatever form is a flexible concept with a broad range of applications and no universal standard for implementation. A narrative can create a platform for communication, discussion, analysis and innovation.
The programme will run as a one-day event and will consist of 5 sessions dedicated to different fields of inquiry. The sessions will include presentations by invited speakers, followed by the examination, discussion and showcasing of completed or in-process research and practice. These will feature interactive media, films, virtual reality, performance, music, dance, sound, text, animation, illustration based around narrative or creative storytelling. The event will end with a wine reception and a screening at 6pm.
