Partnership with Parkside Federation introduces younger generation to the 'Sound of Cambridge'

A new project by CoDE and Parkside Federation is set to introduce younger generations to the importance of sound, after securing a partnership grant from the Royal Society.

The Partnership Grants are presented to schools for projects that enable students aged 5 to 18 to get involved with STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering or mathematics).

This particular project will allow students to study the acoustics of the built environment, and is divided into several parts. The first, delivered by CoDE's Dr Mariana Lopez, will include sessions on soundwalking, room acoustics and impulse response capture. The second will require the students to visit four sites of their choice to study the acoustic characteristics, and also the acoustical changes of their new school site, which is currently under development.

The students will then present their results to their peers, as well as a team of STEM experts.
