The Crossing wins BAFTSS 2018 Award

The British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies (BAFTSS) has awarded Shreepali Patel, Director of StoryLab, as winner of Best Practice Research Portfolio: Research Applications and Installations.

The winning documentary, The Crossing, is an immersive cross-platform film that explores the story of a young girl sex trafficked into a multibillion dollar organised industry. Her story unfolds through a number of responsive interconnected screens using intense sound design and perspective shifting visuals; giving audiences an intense audio-visual experience of the destructive consequences of human trafficking.

This work was recognised by the panel as:

"An outstanding example of impactful practice research which explores the issue of sex trafficking through the use of immersive cross-platform storytelling, that pushes the boundaries of documentary. Its multiscreen format creates an immersive landscape which reveals this global black market industry through its affect on the individual."

The BAFTSS is a prestigious professional body that seeks to encourage best teaching and research practice, and promote the recognition and representation of research into and critical analysis of screen-based media that enables an understanding of culture, society and economy of the new century.
