Studying either Sport and Exercise Science or Sports Coaching and Physical Education at university can open up a wide range of exciting, well-paid careers. During our discovery day, we’ll take you through a few of the many disciplines in the area of sport and help you better understand what the professionals specialise in.

We’ll start the day with an introduction to all the different types of careers in sport and exercise science, and the degrees you might choose to reach your chosen career path.

We’ll also give you a taste of what it's like to be a practising sport and exercise scientist or sports coach in our BASES-accredited sports labs.

Sessions may include:

  • Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviour, and Health
  • Performance Analysis in sport
  • Biomechanics: Forces & Jump Height
  • Sport Coaching – what do the pro’s do?
  • Sport Coaching: Global sporting arms race: why do some countries win more medals?
  • Sport Coaching: Functional Movement Session
  • Sport Psychology: Decision making & attention in sport
  • Sport Psychology: Mindfulness & Attention
  • Sport Psychology: Quiet Eye training in aiming tasks / Visual attention in Penalty Kicks
  • Physiology: Cardiovascular responses to exercise
  • Nutrition in sport
  • Strength & Conditioning
  • Mini sport festival

Throughout the day, we'll also be providing opportunities for teachers to engage with CPD sessions, which are separate from the students' sessions.

Please note: this event is suitable for students aged 16+ and for school groups of A-level/BTEC sport subjects.
