Sportober Fest

Sportober Fest is a great time to try new activities and listen to some great guest lectures.  We have done the hard work for you by making a list of activities going on both in ARU and also in Cambridge for members of the public to get involved with.  Some of these activities do have a cost so see our list for more information on what is going on!

Sport Taster Sessions

Cost: Free

Are you looking to play your  favourite sport, stay in shape, meet new friends or try something new? Then Campus Sport is for you. Campus Sport is led by our Student Sport Activators and is all about getting involved, relaxing and having fun. We have a variety of activities on offer from beginners tennis, basketball, volleyball, 5-a-side football and many more.

5-a-side Football League entries open

Cost: £30 per team

Join our 5-a-side football league which starts on Monday 8th October and runs until the Christmas Holidays.  Form a team by talking to your friends, housemates and classmates and enjoy a game every week. Pick up an entry form from Helmore Gym and return the form with the entry fee before Monday 1st October.

Coach Academy Applications Open

Coach Academy is an opportunity to develop and enhance your skills as a sport coach.  You will receive mentoring and have the chance to undertake a funded coaching qualification which will enhance your employability skills!

Officials Academy Applications Open

Officials Academy gives ARU students the chance to undertake Officials courses in one of our selected sports and then volunteer the hours back officiating some of our own sports fixtures, or (if you are already qualified) earn money officiating our fixtures!

Freshers Fair - Find out more about Team ARU and Sport!

Come and try out different sports at our taster sessions and see if you want to represent ARU and play against other universities. Excellence in Sport Lecture - Olympic Gold Medallist Gail Emms MBE

Cost: Free

Come and hear a fantastic talk at 5.30pm by multi-medal winning badminton athlete for GB, Gail Emms MBE. She has represented GB in two Olympics (2004 and 2008). The highlight being a silver in the 2004 Athens Olympics. A physician by education, Mel has embarked on a number of wider science projects, the most recent “Scaling Everest” in Sprint 2018. This was a accomplishment of physical and mental endurance supported by Anglia Ruskin University’s Sport and Exercise Science team.
