Ahad has over ten years of postdoctoral industry and academic teaching and research experience. He's a Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy and a member of regional IMechE Committee.
Ahad has a PhD from Anglia Ruskin University acquired in 2007 on optimising a novel compact heat exchanger. Ahad’s first degree is in Aerospace engineering while his Master’s degree is in Energy Conversion including advanced thermal engineering and computational fluid dynamics.
After his PhD, Ahad was lead investigator in several industrial collaborations working with and at companies such as APPS Technologies and Propelair limited. He was also lead researcher for EU funded FP7 project REVIVAL contributing fluid dynamics simulation expertise to optimise design of an inflow control valve to boost oil production by 25%.
Ahad has recently been successful in a 1.3 Million Euro EU SME Instrument bid initiated by him to commercialise ultra-low water toilet flushing system at Propelair limited and he has submitted a bid for 1 Million pounds to Innovate UK for a Smart Bathroom project, a fully holistic approach for adaptive and smart water and energy saving in the bathroom for domestic applications.
As the course leader for both the MEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering and the BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering course, Ahad has played a major role in transforming the course to be the only Mechanical Engineering course to have two 100% student satisfaction ratings in the past three years and rank among the top 10 universities in the subject area across the UK in the Guardian league table.
Ahad’s main research interests are sustainability and future cities through smart product development, water and energy saving, and thermal and fluid dynamics analysis and simulation. He has excellent experience of innovation management and development working with many innovators though years and has two patents to his name. Ahad’s multi-disciplinary experience in industry, academia, and business development and management gives him a unique ability to communicate with industrial collaborators.
