Join a week-long construction experience where you’ll construct scaled down versions of bridges, buildings, dams and civil engineering projects from all around the world. So far we’ve built scaled versions of the Barcelona Tower and the Gherkin.
Gaining real life, hands on experience of drawing interpretation, project management, concrete pouring, steel frame erection and formwork fabrication, you’ll take your theory from the classroom and put it straight into practice.
You’ll even get the chance to secure yourself a work experience placement with our sponsor Morgan Sindall.
Our Senior Lecturer Adrian Garbutt has worked with Morgan Sindall in previous years and says: 'Their site staff have been both friendly and instructive in the way they have dealt with our students - never failing to recognise that they are complete novices on site and opening up the multitude of opportunities to learn with patience and forbearance.'
Our week-long residential field trip takes place at the National Construction College in Bircham Newton in Norfolk in the second semester of the first year. You will be asked to make a contribution of between £250 and £300 towards the cost of food and accommodation. You will also be asked to provide your own safety shoes or boots and warm outdoor clothing. Other personal protective equipment will be provided.
It was a great experience! During the week we could get in touch with all stages of a construction project... And what was better was that we really did it by ourselves instead of just watching the completion of the project being done by someone else. I strongly recommend this program for other students looking for initial experience within the construction field
