Jeannette's background is in ubiquitous computing. Her research interests concern end user programming for smart environments and the Internet of Things, a concept she explored back in 2003 when it was known as 'embedded internet'.

Research-wise, Jeannette's goal is to develop intelligent user-and-context-aware decision support EUP systems. Currently, she works on the location-based personalised mobile services and IoT applications, adaptive optimisation framework for IoT energy harvesting, HCI, cloud computing, information search and retrieval to solve problems and develop new techniques and technologies for future smart environments, health and applications.
