About Biomedical Science

Full-time undergraduate courses

Develop your scientific skills and explore new specialisms some of the best laboratory facilities in the UK on courses that are accredited by professional bodies.

Biomedical science is fascinating. It's all about understanding how the human body works – both when healthy and when diseased, and without biomedical scientists, doctors would not be able to diagnose diseases properly or treat patients effectively. It's a continually changing, dynamic profession with good long-term career prospects including specialised laboratory work, research, education and management.

Our courses are located on our Cambridge campus and via distance learning and are delivered full- and part-time at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Our Biomedical Science degrees (BSc and MSc) are accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science.

We also offer a range of stand-alone modules that can be studied by biomedical scientists wishing to continue their professional development.

Our department houses a range of state-of-the art laboratory equipment including:

  • dedicated microbiology suite
  • cellular pathology and molecular genetics research suite
  • one general purpose and two biochemistry/molecular biology teaching laboratories
  • multi-channel real time PCR machines
  • flow cytometer
  • DNA sequencer
  • human anatomy teaching models.

First-class, research-active staff

You'll be taught by a group of highly qualified and enthusiastic staff who have strong links with industry and many external organisations.
