A group of young men in silhouette beneath a bridge

Hosted jointly by the Policing Institute for the Eastern Region and Essex Police, this event will feature a conversation with Dr Neville Lawrence, the father of Stephen who was murdered in a racially motivated attack while waiting for a bus in Eltham on the evening of 22 April 1993.

Dr Lawrence will discuss his son’s murder and the light it shone on institutional racism, the challenges which have developed since, some of the success factors including changes in legislation and policing, and the work he does with communities and organisations to face the current threats of violence – including knives, gangs and in particular the impact on young people. He will share his own lessons and learning to stop others making the same mistakes again.
