Background

Sharon has worked for twenty years within the NHS as a children’s nurse in a variety of settings. She initially worked with children and families on children’s ward followed by a number of years working within paediatric intensive care units, predominantly cardio thoracic nursing, before moving to community children’s nursing.

Research interests

• Children and young people as service users
• The ‘voice of children’ in healthcare
• Children and young people requiring palliative care
• Children with long-term ventilation needs

Teaching

In 2006, Sharon started working at Anglia Ruskin University teaching modules with child field nursing students on the pre-registration courses. She currently facilitates child field groups and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as collaborating in various projects. Alongside teaching and leading modules, she has been involved in the design and provision of programmes of education and training, including educational audits, to evaluate the quality and outcomes of professional education and training. Sharon has recently taken the appointment as Course Leader for Cambridgeshire and would welcome your comments on course development.

Sharon is also the link lecturer for acute care children wards in Addenbrookes Hospital. Providing academic support and expertise to all children’s wards in Addenbrookes Hospital

External delivery of a module (Watford): Introduction to the Palliative Care of Children & Young People Location. External income generation of £7650.

Research Support for Evaluation of EPIC Children’s Respite and Music Therapy Service.  This was work undertaken in conjunction with Dr Tina Moules and Professor and Professor Helen Odell-Miller.  External income generation of £13,983.
