Background

She started her role as Course Leader in November 2014, and in addition to this role she is currently Module Leader for the introduction module and both anaesthetics modules across the course. She also teaches on the Research module, and the Post Anaesthetic Care module.

Before joining our University, Lisa was a senior operating department practitioner (ODP in practice, with over 20 years’ experience in all aspects of anaesthesia within theatres, including general, local and regional anaesthesia, difficult airways, adult, paediatric, obstetric, critical care, major surgery and specialist surgery. She also has experience as a scrub practitioner, where she particularly focussed on eye surgery. She was the Practice Educator within the theatre department of her Trust and was responsible for monitoring and supporting students within the theatre department, including allocation of appropriate mentors and monitoring of progress. In this role she had close links with a team of Practice Educators, and the University, which she maintains in her current role.

Lisa is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, and both clinically and in her current role has a firm belief in the importance of professionalism and professional identity, and strives to encourage this in her students. She has consistently used a holistic approach to look after the service users in her care, ensuring attention is paid to every aspect of their wellbeing, and feels it is important to instil this attitude in her students. In her current role, and in her previous role as Practice Educator, she takes a significant part of the pastoral care of the students, which is an area she excels at.

As Course Leader she is responsible for ensuring consistent quality of delivery and support for the students under her tutelage, and she coordinates the efforts of the rest of the teaching team, ensuring a consistent delivery. As a team they continually review their teaching practice and adapt to the needs of their individual cohorts as their skill sets develop across the span of the course. She also firmly believes in taking a holistic approach in supporting the students, and to this end the students are provided with extensive academic and personal support.
