Liam is a qualified registered dispensing optician with over 30 years of experience. He is a council member of the General Optical Council.

Background

Liam qualified as a dispensing optician in 1987 and spent the next 13 years in practice, working in various roles for Dollond & Aitchison including a secondment to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kings Lynn, where he ran the Low Vision Clinic. In 1995, he took over the running of the optometry clinic in the Leicester Royal Infirmary Hospital.

Liam has been an ABDO Practical Examiner (1989–2011), Theory Examiner (1997–2011) and Distance Learning Tutor (1989–2007), as well as a course tutor for the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Manufacturers (2006–2011).

In 2013, Liam was named the Association of Optometrist's Lecturer of the Year.

  • The repeatability and accuracy of ophthalmic measurements
  • The design and manufacture of spectacle frames for the paediatric patient
  • The BSEN safety standards as applied to private practice
  • The legal and ethical aspects of a modern optometric practice
