Background

Juan obtained his MSc in physics at the University of Salamanca in 2002, followed by a PhD in 2007 from Universidad de Murcia. From 2008-9 he was a Marie Curie Research Fellow at the University of Tuebingen in Germany, working in the field of myopia. Then, from 2010-16 he occupied several positions at the University of Murcia, including a Juan de la Cierva Fellowship.

In 2016, Juan joined our Vision and Eye Research Institute as a Reader, where he developed clinical research related to visual optics. He re-joined the University of Murcia as an Assistant Professor in 2019, but remains a Visiting Reader at ARU.

Juan's research articles have received more than 1000 citations and an h-index of 19. He is also inventor of three international patents granted to companies of the sector and he is a co-founder, participant and member of the start-up VOPTICA. He has been a visiting researcher in some of the most prestigious visual optics lab in the world.
