George has extensive research experience in spatial data manipulation, and currently teaches modules in computer programming.



Originally with a geosciences background, George moved into computer science and his current teaching includes Object Oriented Programming, Distributed Systems Programming, and Artificial Intelligence. His responsibilities in the School of Computing and Information Science include: Course Leader for MSc Information Communication Technology; Link Tutor for SAMs (Trinidad); Chair of the Departmental Research Ethics Panel (DREP); School Research Income Coordinator. His research interests and activities are broad (see below); he regularly reviews academic articles and recently served as organising committee member and track chair for two international IEEE conferences (ISIE2017, INDIN2015).

Research interests

Geographical data processing; Distributed computing; Data structures for the semantic web; 2D/3D graphics/imaging applications.

Areas of research supervision

George has supervised a number of research students to successful PhD completion in the following areas: distributed applications and web services; web semantics; software reliability.

Research grants, consultancy, knowledge exchange

Secured and managed four government-funded Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) projects with industrial partners, developing their business information systems.

In role as School Research Income Coordinator, supports staff in their bids for external funding (eg KTP/KEEP, InnovateUK, Horizon2020, EPSRC, HEA).

Occasional consultancy/educational training courses delivered externally.
