Emma undertakes health services research with a particular interest in involvement and collaboration with service users and carers in mental health research and service improvement.

Background

Emma joined the Psychology team at Anglia Ruskin University in 2014. She is a Chartered Psychologist and member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Before her academic career and PhD, Emma worked in the private sector in various organisations over a number of years and has an MSc in Organisational Psychology.

Emma is a member of the Empowerment and Social Justice Research Group, and Interim Co-director (2022-23) of the ARU Centre for Societies and Groups.

Research interests

Emma’s broad interests lie in people’s everyday lived experience of healthcare services. She undertakes research in the following areas:

  • Mental health services, and evaluating co-production, service user involvement, and shared decision making in mental health settings
  • Critical perspectives and community health psychology, in particular considerations of power and psychiatry
  • Wellbeing among students, and embedding emotions for learning in the curriculum
  • Qualitative methods and participatory approaches in psychology

Areas of research supervision

Emma has supervised PhD students to completion and would welcome PhD applications that fit her research interests.
