Law Clinic expands to Peterborough and Harlow

Award-winning service is expanded to cover two more towns

Anglia Ruskin University’s successful Law Clinic is to expand to Peterborough and Harlow, offering free legal advice on family law matters to people who might otherwise not have access to it.

The Law Clinic was established in 2018 in Cambridge and Chelmsford, and had provided more than £32,000 in free legal advice by the start of 2019. Now the clinic is expanding to provide the service for those local communities in Harlow and Peterborough.

The clinic is able to provide pro bono service by collaborating with local law firms and providing opportunities for Anglia Ruskin Law students to work alongside them. The clinic covers areas such as family, employment, wills and criminal law.

Sarah Calder, Director of Anglia Ruskin’s Law Clinic, said:

“We are delighted to be able to expand our successful Law Clinic out to other areas to help more people who might otherwise struggle to get legal advice.

“Since the cuts in legal aid a few years ago, many people don’t really know where to turn for these matters and not only can we help provide support, it is also a valuable experience for our students.”

The Peterborough pop-up clinic will operate once a month at Anglia Ruskin’s campus at Guild House, Oundle Road.

A Harlow centre, run by trained student advisors, will operate from the town's Citizens Advice Bureau in East Gate.

Last month, the Law Clinic won the Excellence in Pro Bono award at the Cambridgeshire and District Law Society’s annual awards.
