New book by Anglia Ruskin student explores the complex lives of three new mums

Untitled PageAn Anglia Ruskin University student is set to launch her debut novel, telling the story of three first-time mums whose respective roads to motherhood are bumpier than most!

Lucie Wheeler’s book The First Time Mums’ Club goes on sale in May and tells the story of Pippa, Ellie and Imogen, a trio of new mothers whose complex personal lives mean their foray into parenthood is far from straightforward.

Lucie, who lives in Billericay, has a ten-year-old daughter and said her own experience of becoming a mum helped her when writing the book.

She said:

“Being pregnant and having a baby can be a lonely time, especially when it is your first and you don't know what to expect, so I found my respite at my local mother and baby group. It was here that I realised that actually, I was doing OK at being mummy and I had support around me.

“When I was thinking about my latest novel, I knew I wanted to embrace parenthood and the wonders of being pregnant with your first child when you have a support network around you - this is where Mums’ Club was born.

The First Time Mums’ Club follows the journey of three ladies embarking on the biggest journey of their lives - becoming a mum for the first time. However, the ladies find themselves in situations which threaten to complicate their perfect plans and forces them to question what it is they really want.”

Lucie, 30, is now into the second year of her Early Childhood Studies degree at Anglia Ruskin. She added:

“The staff at Anglia Ruskin have been so incredibly supportive with my creative work. The content of my course is so interesting and because I enjoy writing about the lives of parents and their children, alongside studying early childhood, I find I get a lot of inspiration from my course material.

“Combining writing with my studies as well as being a mum requires a lot of multitasking but I love everything I do, so that helps!”

The First Time Mums’ Club will be published digitally by HarperImpulse and goes on sale on 5 May. The book is available for pre-order on www.amazon.co.uk
