Experienced research operations professional joins from New Zealand

Anglia Ruskin University has appointed Dr Michael Millan to head up its Research and Innovation Development Office (RIDO), which plays a key part in organising the university’s world-leading research and its renowned innovation and partnership working.

Dr Millan was previously the Director of Research Operations at Massey University, New Zealand. Prior to this, he spent time at universities in Australia and also worked in the pharmaceutical industry for nine years.

Dr Millan’s responsibilities as Director of RIDO include support for funding applications for academic staff; working with key partners in industry, the private and the public sector; knowledge transfer partnerships – where companies are encouraged to benefit from the expertise of Anglia Ruskin staff; the MedBIC, a hub for start-ups based at the Chelmsford campus; and Anglia Ruskin’s Doctoral School.

Dr Millan said:

“I am extremely excited about this new role. Research and innovation is at the heart of everything Anglia Ruskin does and this was emphasised recently when it received a Lloyds Bank National Business Award for university entrepreneurship.

“I am looking forward to working with partners from local authorities, business and health services to help drive enterprise in our region.”
