Kylie Minogue to receive honorary degree

Anglia Ruskin students will be joined by 12 honoraries at graduation ceremonies

Over 2,500 students from Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford will be joined by honoraries from the fields of music, sport, media, fashion, healthcare, education, literature, finance, law and viniculture as they celebrate their graduation.

The ceremonies, which will be held at the Riverside campus in Chelmsford on 4, 5 and 6 October, will see undergraduate and postgraduate students don ceremonial graduation gowns to mark the formal completion of their degrees. 

The 12 honorary awards will be presented during the faculty-themed ceremonies to various individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievements. 

Honorary degrees will be received by singer and actress Kylie Minogue, novelist Jilly Cooper, fashion designer Anya Hindmarch, swimmer Mark Foster, TV sports presenter Manish Bhasin, economist Kate Barker, Paralympian Mike Brace, Beijing Union University President Professor Liu Gonghui, wine producer and author Stephen Skelton, leading lawyer Junius Ho, NHS administrator Dr Paul Zollinger-Read and education author Mary Jane Drummond.

Professor Michael Thorne, Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin, said:

“These hardworking and determined graduates have done exceptionally well, and will be looking to start or accelerate their careers in an economy which is now, more than ever, looking at academic qualifications as an important precursor to employment.

“We wish them every success in their chosen careers and hope they will be inspired by the stories of our honorary graduates and achieve great things in life.”
