The Anglia Ruskin University Careers Service has organised another Job Fair on behalf of over 200 students who will complete their training and qualify as Registered Nurses (Adult, Mental Health and Learning Disability Branches) in March 2006. Over 16 different organisations who were seeking to recruit students in the final stage of their nurse training attended the event at Chelmsford. It provided the ideal opportunity for student nurses looking for their first post to meet representatives of not only hospitals in Essex but also mental health partnerships, primary care trusts and the independent sector.
The Royal College of Nursing were approached for the first time and agreed to make a contribution to the programme as they were very keen to make contact with the nursing students. The Essex Regional Officer, Tony Durcan, led thought provoking sessions on 'New Approaches to Health Care' which encouraged students to consider the implications of Government plans for the nursing profession in the future.
Several tutors from the Institute of Health and Social Care were also available to give in-depth information to students about options for further study towards professional career development at the University.
The organisations transformed an area of Queen's Building and the Mezzanine floor of the Michael A Ashcroft Business School into an exhibition with colourful display stands, glossy brochures, and even video/Powerpoint presentations.
The organisations included: Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Essex Rivers Health Care Trust, Mid Essex Health Trust, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Southend Hospital, North Essex Mental Health Partnership, South Essex Partnership Trust, Colchester Primary Care Trust, Southend Primary Care Trust, Uttlesford Primary Care Trust, Tower Hamlets Services for People with Learning Disabilities, Care Perspectives, Elm Park Brain Injury Services, Precious Homes, St Luke's Hospital Group, the Territorial Army.
A recruitment pack from these organisations is available for reference in the Careers Information area of Student Support Services on the 2nd floor of Tindal during normal opening times: Monday - Thursday between 8.30 - 17.00, and Friday between 8.30 - 16.00.
