Tesco Opticians will sharpen their focus on excellent customer service thanks to a partnership with Anglia Ruskin University.

Fifteen Optical Assistants beginning their careers at the company will embark on a bespoke Ophthalmic Dispensing Assistant course this year.

Students will complete the fully online course, which focuses on key customer service skills in dispensing, to receive a Level 4 University Certificate in Ophthalmic Dispensing.

The course fee is completely paid for by Tesco and there is an option to progress to a Foundation Degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing.

This qualification has been developed by Anglia Ruskin’s Degrees At Work team, who specialise in creating innovative work-based courses for employers, in collaboration with the University’s Faculty of Science and Technology.

Suparna Ghose, Principal Consultant for Anglia Ruskin University, said:

“We are delighted to be selected as the preferred university for Tesco’s Optical Assistants.

“We have been working with Tesco Opticians for some months to develop this provision.  They have an impressive vision for dedicated healthcare training, empowering their people with the right skills and inspiring them to be the very best they can.”

Tesco’s Eilidh Hodge, Training Manager Opticians – Health and Wellbeing, said:

“We are pleased to partner with Anglia Ruskin University and offer our colleagues the opportunity to gain a university qualification.

“We hope this partnership helps our colleagues to progress their careers further and in turn gives our customers a greater level of service and expertise.”
