Making the RCN’s shortlist is a great honour, says Joanne

Anglia Ruskin University student Joanne Tonkin has been shortlisted for the prestigious RCN Fellows Student Nurse Award.

Joanne, 24, who is originally from Colchester, is about to begin the final year of her three-year DipHE in Adult Nursing at Fulbourn and lives in student accommodation at Addenbrookes Hospital.

The RCN Fellows Student Nurse Award received more applications than any other category and Joanne has already had to submit a 500-word reflective submission and undergo an interview in front of the judging panel at the Royal College of Nursing’s headquarters in London.

Joanne said:

“It’s a real honour to be nominated for such a prestigious award.  To be in the final two is a great confidence boost and makes me feel proud to be going into the nursing profession.”

The awards ceremony will be held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London on 28 April and there is a cash prize of £1,000 on offer to the winner.

Joanne’s personal tutor, Grahame Douglas, said:

“Joanne is a fantastic student who deserves real credit for this nomination.  She always has a smile on her face and you can see that she really wants to be a great nurse.  Everyone at the Faculty wishes her luck.”
