Degree programme receives accreditation from Royal Society of Biology

Anglia Ruskin University has been accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for delivering a solid academic foundation in biological knowledge and equipping its bioscience graduates with the skillsets needed by future employers.

The RSB accredited Anglia Ruskin’s BSc Medical Science and BSc Medical Science (Extended) courses in recognition of the high standards of education provided. Both courses are available to study from September.

A reception in the Houses of Parliament celebrated the accreditation, with academics, industry representatives and bioscience students in attendance. Anglia Ruskin was represented by Dr Rudolph Schutte, Nicky Milner and Dr Basel Arafat.

Nicky Milner, Senior Lecturer in Medical Sciences, said:

“The RSB accreditation endorses the quality of our teaching and delivery of an innovative medical science curriculum. Embedding employability through our student experience, leadership, digital literacies and specialist practical skills, were commended by the panel.

“The STEM agenda in Essex is vital for the growth of the region, with many scientific employers moving into the area, and Anglia Ruskin is proud to be involved in educating the next generation of scientists.”

The RSB Accreditation programme champions excellence in the biosciences, by not only recognising degree programmes that offer a high standard of teaching, curriculum provision and practical skillset development, but also those that enhance graduate employability skills.

Dr Mark Downs FRSB, chief executive of the RSB, said:

“We are delighted to congratulate the 18 institutions who have been awarded a form of accreditation this year.

“We want to ensure that all bioscientists, at any stage of education, can embark on their studies in the knowledge that they will receive an exceptional standard of training and support, equipping them with the skills employers particularly value.”
