Professor John Kinnear has been appointed Head of the School of Medicine.
A consultant in anaesthetics and intensive care medicine at Southend University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Professor Kinnear has a special interest in simulation-based education and global healthcare improvement.
He was the founding director and co-designer of the high-fidelity simulation centre for Anglia Ruskin’s Postgraduate Medical Institute.
Professor Kinnear is also Head of the MMed Anaesthesia Programme based in the Zambian capital Lusaka, which he designed to address the high surgical death rate associated with anaesthesia in under-resourced areas.
A graduate of the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, Professor Kinnear trained in Paediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology before completing training as a specialist anaesthetist at the Barts and The London School of Anaesthetics in 1998.
