Dr Atika Kemal's research interests focus on the use of digital technologies innovation in organisations or developing economies. Her research is interdisciplinary and has implications to shape policy and practice in public and private sector institutes.

Atika has taught various business management modules since 2013. She holds a PhD from ARU and an MSc in Information Systems and Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Authority. Before establishing her career in the UK, Atika worked in the telecommunications sector in Pakistan.

Research interests

Atika's research interests revolve around the area of digital technologies for inclusion with particular focus on digital innovation projects for organisational or socio-economic change and development. 

Her thesis, 'Mobile Banking for Financial Inclusion in Pakistan', explored how mobile banking innovation in a government social cash programme affected the economic and social livelihood of poor women in Pakistan - more specifically, how digital payments were linked with entrepreneurial development for financial inclusion. 

Atika adopts qualitative methods in her diverse research interests that are interdisciplinary in the fields of organisation theory, information systems, economics and information communication technologies for development (ICT4D). She has presented her research at several international conferences with publications.
