Overview

Develop your English language skills and take a hands-on art and design course at the same time. Study at Cambridge School of Art, one of the longest established art schools in the UK.

Full description

Course content

The English Plus Art and Design course is a full time course that runs for either two or four weeks and comprises of 25 hours of study.  This will include 15 hours of English and Art focused language and 10 hours of Art and Design.

The course content includes the following:

English

  • Listening to art history and note taking skills
  • Describing and responding to art
  • Offering opinion and developing pronunciation
  • Speaking and writing skills
  • Grammar and pronunciation
  • Art and design focused vocabulary

Design

  • Observational Drawing
  • Printmaking and illustration
  • Creative fashion, graphic or digital project work
  • Portfolio development
  • Self-study -  Portfolio work/drawing exercises/Ideas creation
  • Visits to galleries and museums

Course dates and fees

English Plus Art and Design runs in the summer and you can choose from attending a two or four week course. (Please note, for groups we may be able to organise alternative dates to those listed below, please contact us at [email protected]).

The course fee includes:

  • 15 hours per week of English and art focused language
  • 10 hours per week of Art and Design workshops
  • Portfolio workshops
  • Visits to museums and galleries in Cambridge and London
  • Campus accommodation in Cambridge (with free Wi-Fi)
  • Free airport pick-up

Please note the course fee does not include meals but you will have access to a fully equipped kitchen and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes on campus and close to the university.

Assessment

At the end of the course there won’t be a formal assessment but you will receive a certificate of attendance.

To apply please complete the application form and return this to lsu @anglia.ac.uk.

Once we have received your application form you will be sent an offer letter by email. You will need to return the acceptance slip and pay for the English Plus Art and Design course in full.

Before you start your course we will send you a pre-arrival guide with information on your accommodation and how to arrange your free airport pick-up.

Please note we will not be able to confirm your place on the English Plus Art and Design Course and reserve your accommodation, until we have received the acceptance slip from you offer letter and received full payment.

Entry requirements

We would recommend that you have some level of experience in an Art and Design subject (we welcome students from all art backgrounds).  Your level of English should be at intermediate level.

To join this course you will also need a Short Term Study Visa (if you are applying as an international student).
