Sally has worked in social care settings for over 20 years, before taking on her role at the University.
Sally has worked in a number of community and field care settings with a diverse range of service users. She has been a Social Worker in a children and family's team, a support worker for adults with learning disabilities, a care worker for older people, a residential worker with young people, a mentor for young people with Mental Health needs and a participation manager with Looked After children and young people. Her most recent role was managing an Access to Resources service, focussing on commissioning, strategic planning, and placement matching and quality assurance, within and integrated children, families and adults service.
Sally joined the university initially as a part time secondment opportunity in 2012, and then on a full time basis at the end of 2014. She's studying for a Professional Doctorate, researching the efficacy of the Staying Put scheme for Looked After young people.
Sally's teaching interests include: the application of theory to practice, service user participation, direct work skills, commissioning and the commodification of social care, Looked After children and young people, management of risk.
In addition to her Professional Doctorate, Sally has been involved in some initial pilot work exploring the use of Knowledge Mapping to demonstrate skills, tacit knowledge and professional development.
